"Controlling" is the German word for the integrated planning and control cycle that underlies the different management domains. The overall goal of the lecture consists out of developing the students knowlegde, skills and competences in the systemic planning and control thinking. The integrated planning and control methodology allows the recognition of management processes, the assessment of the effectiveness of management processes and the adjustments needed to improve the management processes over time. The planning and control skills should not be limited to the cost, risk and financial domains of an enterprise. If possible the planning and control competences should be applicable to all kinds of management domains (e.g. quality management and customer relationship management).
The management processes are modeled in the Unified Modeling Language (UML) in order to clearly specify the different management activities and management information. This has the big advantage that the management processes can be implemented in management information systems.
