Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to...

  • understand the basics of the Austrian constitution and the relationship between national und European legal systems
  • analyse business issues from a legal perspective
  • ascertain wheter there is a binding contract
  • recognize and legally assess performance disruptions and contractual liability risks
  • assess the entrepreneurial status of a legal entity within the meaning of the Austrian Commercial Code and evaluate the associated legal consequences, especially in entrepreneurial business transactions
  • analyse which legal form best suites the individual needs with respect to the founding of a company and the applicable company law

 

Subject of course

  • Basic principles of Austrian constitutional law and the law of the European Union
  • Fundamentals of general ciivl law (in particular contract law and tort law)
  • Basic concepts and selected institutes of general coporate law
  • Comparative presentation of the most important legal forms in the area pf partnerships and corporations

Examination modalities

Proof of performance must be provided in the form of a written attendance examination. The written exam is held in German and lasts 60 minutes. The exam consists of several knowledge or case questions with different levels of difficulty, which are based on the content of the lecture.

Permitted aids: The written exam is held in open-book format. In addition to the legal texts, all other course materials and learning materials may be used, but only in analog (printed) form. The use of digital aids is not permitted.

Minimum requirements and assessment standard: A total of 30 points can be achieved on the written examination, 16 points are required to pass.

Grading scale: From 16 points (4); from 19.5 points (3); from 23 points (2); from 26.5 points (1)
