Properties

  • Semester hours: 4.0
  • Credits: 5.0
  • Type: VU Lecture and Exercise

Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to understand the fundmental concepts and methods of strength of materials and to apply them appropriately to practically relevant problems like rods, discs, plates and shells.

Subject of course

Torsion of straight rods with arbitrary cross section (thin-walled, shear center, torsion with constrained warping), curved rods, rotationally symmetric thin-walled structures (plates and shells), variational principles, approximation methods (Ritz, Galerkin)

Teaching methods

Presentation (Beamer + blackboard) and discussion of the theoretical basis of strength of materials in the lecture part; calculation of example problems in the tutorial part

Mode of examination

Written

Additional information

The lecture manuscript can be purchased at the Institute of mechanics and mechatronics,  during the secretary office hous:Sekretariatssprechstunden. Additional lecture materials can be found in the TUWEL Online-Kurs.

There are no lectures in the first week of the Semester, the first lecture starts at October 9th.
