Aim of course

Based on the knowledge acquired in this course the student should be able to develop for special mechatronic applications her/his own sensor or/and actuator.

Subject of course

This course concentrates on the main transducing mechanism for the measurement of mechanical, flow, acoustic, magnetic, and thermal quantities. Thereby, we focus on the physical principles and its modeling. In detail, we will discuss the following topics:

  • Measurement of acoustic pressure, intensity and power using capacitive microphones and intensity sensor
  • Acoustic source localization by microphone arrays
  • Flow rate and fluid level measurement applying ultrasound, magnetic inductive and Venturi meter
  • Temperature measurement using PT100 and infrared thermography
  • Optical measurement of vibrations using laser triangulation sensor and laser vibrometer
  • Modeling of electromagnetic, electrodynamic and piezoelectric actuators and application to positioning systems
