Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to:

  • formulate a fluid mechanical problem dimensionless
  • discern which type of asymptotic expansion (regular, matched asymptotic expansion, method of multiple scales, method of strained coordnates) is appropriate
  • exand the solution of a fluid mechanical problem asymptotically with respect to a small or large dimensionless parameter
