Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to apply the methods that have been exemplified in a problem from applied research to similar cases. These include relatively simple physical-mathematical modeling, the systematic simplification of the model equations, the analytic or numerical solution procedures of the model equations and the result documentation according to technical-scientific standards with special emphasis on the structure of the report, correct and comprehensive specification of references, appealing and meaningful presentation of illustrations, diagrams, etc.

Subject of course

Mathematical and physical modelling of relatively simple problems (topics typically from applied research). Scope of work includes dimension analysis, numerical simulation and/or use of perturbation methods and project documentation.

Teaching methods

Physical-mathematical modeling (derivation of model equations, dimensional analysis, identification of characteristic nondimensional groups and simplifications), solution of the model equations (numerically and / or with the help of perturbation methods)
