Aim of course

Introduction to various important fluid flows and measurement methods in fluid mechanics.

Subject of course

Units of 4 hours each on the following topics: (i) viscosimetry, (ii) pipe flow, (iii) classical optical measurement methods, free convection; shallow water channel, (iv) icing of a wing profile in the subsonic wind tunnel (hot wire anemometry, 6-component force balance), (v) Particle Image Velocimetry or Laser Doppler Anemometry, (vi) diffusion and fingering in a Hele-Shaw cell.
