The student will be exposed to basic numerical methods in engineering. After the course he/she should be able to apply these methods to basic problems. The course is aimed at building the ground for more advanced courses in numerics.
Basics of numerical arithmetics, basics of Matlab, basical methods of numerical linear algebra, solution methods for nonlinear equations, approximation of functions, numerical differentiation and integration, eigenvalue problems, boundary-value problems, initial-value problems.
This course is taught in English.
Exam modalities:
- a non-programmable calculator is allowed. - questions are in English but help/vocabulary list can be provided. Answers preferably in English, but German is also accepted. - documents are not allowed. - paper sheets are provided.
