Aim of course

The participants should understand the fundamentals of Information Technology necessary for engineering applications.

Subject of course

Information Technology (IT) is now a tool in nearly all engineering disciplines. Contents: In this course a first introduction from an application orientated viewpoint will be given. After various definition terms like information acquisition, information processing and application, PLC's and industrial PC's (IPC) are shortly discussed. Various bus systems are the basics for Local Area Networks (LAN) and the INTERNET. Finally a short introduction in TCP/IP, mobile communication and cost and reliability is given. Remarks: The course will be taught partially via INTERNET. Additional guest lecturers will be invited.
