Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to:

  • to design a lightweight structure by application of the knowledge from LVA „317.542 VU Analytical Methods in Lightweight Design“
  • to operate the hard- and software to measure force, displacement, and strain
  • to perform (under supervision) the ultimate load experiment

 

Subject of course

Laboratory exercises for advanced training. Design/calculation/manufacture/testing of a 3D printed thin-walled plastic lightweight structure.

Teaching methods

Working in groups of three to four students.

Application of the knowledge from LVA „317.542 VU Analytical Methods in Leightweight Design“ to design a thin-walled lightweight structure.

3D printing of the lightweight structure.

Introduction to measurement hardware and software; independent creation of the measurement report.

Testing of the lightweight structure and discussion of the failure modes with all LVA students.

Preparation of a multi-part written report.
