After successful completion of the course, students are able to…

  • compute simple numerical schemes “by hand” 
  • implement simple numerical schemes using python
  • apply simple numerical schemes to concrete problems
  • discuss the advantages and disadvantages of simple numerical schemes
  • discuss the limits of application of simple numerical scheme

Subject of course

  • basics of numerical arithmetics,
  • basic methods of numerical linear algebra,
  • solution methods for nonlinear equations,
  • approximation of functions,
  • numerical differentiation and integration,
  • boundary-value problems, initial-value problems eigenvalue problems

Teaching methods

  • Discussion of Examples
  • Implementation of simple numerical methods using Ipython-notebooks (Python)
  • Discussion of the implementation of various numerical schemes
  • Application of numerical schemes to concrete problems
  • Discussion of advantages and disadvantages of numerical schemes on the basis of simple examples
