At the beginning of the term students have to choose whether they want to conduct the project work in the field of "Lightweight Structures" or "Finite Element Methods". There is also the option to conduct the project work as a combination of both fields. This requires previous knowledge in both fields.
PW-Lightweight Structures: Application of concepts of light weight design to a project; design and presentation of constructions.
PW-Finite Element Methods: Basics of industrial usage of the FEM for solving engineering problems; teamwork
PW-Lightweight Structures: Design of lightweight structures and structural components.
PW-Finite Element Methods: Each participant has to solve a clearly defined problem either instructural design or in the development of finite element procedures. A clear description of the problem, the modelling and solution strategy, the results and consequenzes of the engineering point of view must be presented in the form of a written project work.
PW-Lightweight Structures: Report and design drawings
PW-Finite Element Methods: Project report
PW-Lightweight Structures: Knowledge in light weight structures, Composites (optional) and linear Finite Element Methods
PW-Finite Element Methods: Knowledge in linear FEM required, knowledge in nonlinear FEM and Modeling Strategies with Finite Elements are recommended.
