Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to

  • to gather information on a topic, which they selected from a pool of given in-depth lightweight or composite structures topics, by literature studies or use of the Internet or contacting companies
  • To summarize topic-specific information in an English-language manuscript in a structured way
  • compile a presentation in English on the chosen topic
  • give a presentation of about 20 minutes in English on the chosen topic in front of the students enrolled in the seminar
  • discuss the contents of their presentation with the students of the seminar in English
  • participate in a technical discussion in English

Subject of course

The participants prepare a seminar work (including a manuscript and a presentation) on a special topic in lightweight or composite structures selected from a list of topics prepared by the lecturers. The students present their work in the form of a short presentation, which is discussed by the student group and the lecturers. Different fields of lightweight and composite structures are targeted each year.

Teaching methods

After selecting the topic to be edited, students will be assisted in finding suitable literature. Questions regarding contents, preparation and presentation are possible at any time via e-mail or in agreed meeting dates. Show pieces available at the institute will be provided for the presentation. The manuscript is sent to the lecturer via e-mail one day before the presentation and uploaded to TISS for all participating students. The presentation can be done via an institute computer or own laptop. A pointer is provided. Following the presentation, the students are invited to discuss the presentation. The quality of the lecture will be discussed by the students, technical questions will be asked and new findings, which they have gained from the presentation, are discussed. The participation in the discussion and the presence are included in the grade.
