317.004 Applied Hydrostatics and Hydrodynamics of Ships
This course is in all assigned curricula part of the STEOP.
This course is in at least 1 assigned curriculum part of the STEOP.

2020W, VO, 2.0h, 3.0EC

Properties

  • Semester hours: 2.0
  • Credits: 3.0
  • Type: VO Lecture
  • Format: Hybrid

Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to:

  • predict ship's stability (buoyancy) of the intact ship and in the event of a leak.
  • apply the hydrodynamic principles for determining the power requirements of ships (e.g. ship shape optimization, propeller theory, interaction of ship and propeller, as well as various propulsion options for ships).
  • optimize ships with a view to minimizing emissions.

Subject of course

Hydrostatics: geometry of ships, lines plans; hydrostatic calculations: stability of intact and damaged ships; strength of ships; hydrodynamics; resistance: contributions to overall resistance; propulsion of ships: propulsion units

Teaching methods

Lecture by talking based to relevant features, combined with projected pictures, printet sheets and drawings.

Mode of examination
