Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to

  • determine and construct the suspension of a car with regard to the desired driving characteristics in consideration of axle kinematics.
  • create proof of life span and stability of critical components.

Subject of course

Design of vehicle suspension systems with CATIA.

Teaching methods

By means of the CAD program CATIA, with the tools "kinematics modeling" and "finite element methods" (training by Prof. Grafinger), the constructive part is carried out. Calculations (bearing calculation, brake sizing, spring calculation, etc.) can be performed in Matlab or Excel. During four support appointments the work progress is checked and appropriate assistance is offered.

In the course of four support appointments, the required work progress is assessed. The design and calculation to be submitted at the end of the block lecture will be assessed and graded according to characteristic criteria. After the grading, the student can consult the supervisor to increase the learning success.
