• to describe the relevant national, European and global objectives and climate strategies in principle
• to describe the possibilities of climate relevant measures and solutions
• to be able to identify optimization potentials in the sense of decarbonization and to make suggestions for improvement.

This provides graduates with an in-depth knowledge base for further detailed examination of this topic.

In the context of international requirements to reduce climate change, the assessment of the energy and resource relevance of products as well as manufacturing and production steps is inevitable. The course provides an overview of the relevant contexts and explains the application of the criteria in this strategic context by means of case studies. The following topics are covered in the course:

• Mechanisms of the climate crisis
• Goals and strategies of climate policies
• Indicators of sustainability
• Resource efficiency and circular economy
• Measures and solutions
• Cleaner production, ecodesign and product-service concepts
• Production in sustainable energy systems
• Decarbonization of energy-intensive industry

Through an alternation of lectures, group discussions, independent processing of tasks as well as discussion of case studies (sometimes with visits), the contents are taught in a practical manner.
