Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to...

  • to successfully search for relevant literature in various databases as well as able to analyse current research results, and they acquire an important knowledge for writing publications.
  • Furthermore, after positive completion of the course, students are able to write their diploma thesis as a scientific paper and learn how to present the relevant passages of their work in a clear and concise form.

Subject of course

Regular presentation of the diploma students' research results and discussion of the results within the group. In the context of this course, the tasks, results as well as possible difficulties in the realization are discussed and possible solutions are discussed. The ongoing face-to-face supervision allows a quick reaction to questions and problems that may arise during the work on the diploma thesis. In addition, essential preliminary work is done to prepare a presentation about the contents and results of the diploma thesis. The presentation of the activities within the diploma thesis is done together with all diploma students of the research group.


Teaching methods

A regular communication about the progress made, or about any problems or uncertainties with the supervisor of the thesis takes place. The students receive structured instructions on how to write their diploma thesis. By working in a small group, a very intensive subject-specific and also interdisciplinary information exchange takes place in the group. Various aspects of writing a diploma thesis (e.g. literature retrieval and handling of literature, tools for visualization, etc.) are elaborated together with the students.
