Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to

  • describe essential components for electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic controls
  • draw function charts and circuit diagrammes for the above mentioned controls
  • explain functionalities and applications of Programmable Logic Controllers and Numerical Controls
  • describe manufacturer-specific and standard interfaces for Numerical Controls

-  basics on automation technology

-  mechanic, pneumatic, hydraulic and electrical control

-  Programmable Control

-  Numerical Control

  •  structure of NC control with PLC
  •  introduction in drives and controls engineering
  •  principle of position control and acquisition of measuring data
  •  toolmanagement and -monitoring

-  automation of machine tools (work piece and tool handling)

-  NC-programming

-  data interfaces for Numerical Controls (manufacturer-specific, MTConnect, OPC UA)

Teaching methods

Lectures will be used to introduce various control types and explain their application with scenario examples
