Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to perform the following tasks, which are necessary for an investigation of large deformations of elastic bodies:

Explicate and apply the relevant basics of tensor algebra and tensor analysis in general curvilinear coordinates;

Explicate and apply the basic relations of finite elasticity theory (geometric relations, equations of motion, material laws for hyperelastic material);

Discuss large deformations of basic elastic components (e.g., cylinders) by analytical means

Subject of course

For the investigation of large elastic deformations of solid bodies:

Mathematical introduction:

tensor algebra and tensor analysis in general curvilinear coordinates;

General theory:

geometrical relations, strain,

stress and equations of motion;

constitutive equations for hyperelastic behavior.

Analytical discussion of special problems
