Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to
1) lifetime calculations of different (also welded) components made of different materials and under different operating conditions according to the FKM guideline of the VDMA,
2) and to provide evidence of durability, time and durability under this Directive.
3) Students are able to incorporate the economic benefits of LD calculations into the in-house discussion.

Subject of course

1_General introduction: various evaluation guidelines, application areas, technical and economic significance

2_Types of dynamic loads and load spectra, operational levels, statistical considerations, failure frequency;

3_Life life calculation of components and welds according to the FKM guideline of the VDMA, both with the aid of analytically determined strains or stresses as well as on the basis of FE data,

4_Conversions in practice for different materials and sufficient application examples.

Teaching methods

    386/5000 Discussion of a company's economic interests in sufficiently sharp life-time statements;

Explanation of the implementation of the LD calculation and the various verifications based on the FKM guideline of the VDMA and on the basis of case studies;

Exercise examples: Calculation of components of different materials under different kind of multiple load or operating conditions
