After successful completion of the course, students are able to estimate the technical relevance of corrsion in general, to understand the mechanisms of corrosion processes, and to interpret practical corrosion scenarios.
The various modes of corrosion of metallic materials in various media are discussed. The chemical and physical basics of corrosion processes are presented and the resulting effects are demonstrated by numerous case histories of corrosion failures. Countermeasures and corrosion protection in general are discussed.
Lecture providing the theory, workshop on practical application of the theory, and laboratory exercises to get hands on the mechanistic basics.
