Properties

  • Semester hours: 2.0
  • Credits: 2.0
  • Type: VU Lecture and Exercise

Aim of course

  • knowledge of the most commonly used additive manufaturing technologies (3D-printing)
  • Theoretical and practical knowledge of AMT suitable computer aided design
  • solving design tasks

Subject of course

In the course of this lecture the advantages and drawbacks of commercially available addtitive manufacturing technologies are presented. By referring to practical case-studies problems regarding materials properties and geometric properties of the manufactured parts are discussed. This class will be taught in English. In recent years, additive manufacturing has become a standard tool for product development. During this class it will be demonstrated how AM techniques can be used during the product development cycle in order to gain advantages regarding economics and time-to-market. In order to complete the class, the students will form teams of two and solve a design problem. The designed parts will be manufactured using RP and the mechanical properties of the obtained parts will be examined.
