Aim of course

Dissemination of specific knowledge about the constitution of metallic materials with focus on the iron-carbon system. The student shall acquire understanding about the interaction between the microstructure of a material and its mechanical and technological properties.

Subject of course

Iron-Carbon system (phase diagram, effect of alloying elements, types of iron-base alloys, ...) microstructure-property relationship possibilities of microstructural transformations (transformation hardening, heat treatments, ...)
