Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to understand the fundamentla concepts allowing to join components. They know about the consequences of various joining technologies on the prospective mechanical properties of the base materials and the joint components. The are capable of estimating and judging the impact of mechanical residual stresses on the properties of the final product.

Subject of course

1. Overview: Basic principles of joining technology 2. Welding processes and equipment (with practical demonstration) 3. Materials and materials behaviour during welding 4. Application and quality control

Teaching methods

The first part of the lecture deals with the fundamentals of joining technology and the modification of the microstructure of the materials accompanying the joining process. In the second part of the lecture, Fronius company will be visited with their "welding mile". The chapter on welding technology will be presented at Fronius.

Part of the course is an excursion to Fronius Österreich GmbH. Participation at the excursion is mandatory!
