2025S, VU, 4.0h, 5.0EC

Properties

  • Semester hours: 4.0
  • Credits: 5.0
  • Type: VU Lecture and Exercise
  • Format: Presence

Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to...

  • determine the flight physical properties of an aircraft
  • reduce the amount of data obtained (e.g. by using coefficients or reduced quantities, by appropriate representation in diagrams)
  • be able to make a differentiated overall assessment of the design synthesis, taking into account flight-physical, structural and economic aspects as well as environmental factors.

Subject of course

Analysis of design characteristics: Lift and moment distribution of the wing, Detailed mass estimation, Center of gravity locations and their limits, Detailed drag estimation, High lift, Flight performance: Horizontal Flight Diagram, Flight Range Diagram, Takeoff and Landing Distances, Mission Analysis and Payload Range Diagram, Direct Operating Costs, Stability and Controllability.

Teaching methods

Lecture with the aim of providing students with a basic understanding of the cause-effect relationships of design and quality parameters. Demonstration of the correlations by means of animated diagrams (applets). Presentation of the calculation methods in the exercise parts. Working on a design project in small groups.

Mode of examination

Immanent

Additional information
