Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to... -getting fundamental and deeper knowledge in numerical Tools for the improved design of machine elements with a Focus on Journal and rolling bearings but also gear parts. -knowledge in software-assisted optimization in applied machine design consideríng also tribological aspects.

Subject of course

-Introduction in optimization -Basic Terms and methods - different Kind of optimization Problems (single objective, linear, non-linear, multi-objective etc) - Design basics in Engineering and correlation with work life maintenance, production, testing... - Tribological considerations regarding lifetime predictions The course will be accompanied by practical excercises using CATIA

Teaching methods

- Calculations of machine elements - Short presentations -Use of CATIA Software and further exercises
