Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to  name the mein inforamtion about helicopters and its desing. They can name the fundamental approaches in the field of helicopter unis design with emphasis on the transmission system of helicoter. The students can describe the influence of the helicopter design on the helicopter transmission system design and they can apply the basics of helicopter aerodynamics.

Subject of course

  1. Introduction / History of Rotorcraft
  2. Essentials of helicopter aerodynamics and flight dynamics
  3. Main helicopter units and subsystems
  4. Classification and analysis of helicopter configurations
  5. Helicopter Design process
  6. Requirements for the designed helicopter
  7. Helicopter transmission system design
  8. Maintenance repair and overhaul

Teaching methods

The used method for knowledge transmission is the teacher-centered teaching. Questions of studends will be answered during the lecture any time. The answers are worked out together with the students. Videos to different topics are provided additionaly to the presentations slides to see the influence of the problems in the design phase in real life.

The start of the lecture is based on history. This should enable a smooth approach into the complex matter of helicopter design.
