After successful completion of the course, students are able to understand and assess the vehicle dynamics, the systems engineering and the structural design of modern rail vehicles. Using the methods shown in the course, novel vehicle concepts can be designed and evaluated regarding requirements of rail vehicles.
1. Requirements for modern rail vehicles. 2. Basic mechanics governing vehicle performance, including vehicle dynamics, aerodynamics, comfort, and safety. 3. The rail vehicle system and its subsystems, including traction system, braking system, and bogies. 4. Selected existing designs of rail vehicles. 5. Materials and manufacturing technologies. 6. Methods supporting the product development process.
