After successful completion of the course, students are able to simulate the flow behaviour in turbomachinery and make suitable choices for required model settings. The successful student will be capable to judge the quality of the mesh and the credibility of the numerically obtained solution. Modelling techniques particular to turbomachinery flows will be familiar to the successful student.
During the course, we will apply numerical fluid mechanics to investigate the flow in turbomachinery applications. Turbomachinery, such as wind, gas, steam, Kaplan, Francis, or Pelton turbines, require many particular flow modelling techniques, which will be presented in this course. We cover all steps required to set up a successful simulation,
We will cover three examples, an airfoil, a U-turn pipe, and a turbomachinery component. The compuational results will be compared with experimental data.
Introduction into the environment of numerical fluid flow simulations.
Submission of the protocols on the completed examples.
