Aim of course

The students should develop some insight into the most important measurement methods in the field of thermal turbomachines. Thy physical fundamentals as well as their practical implementation should be teached. Based on these considerations, the students should be able to analyse more complicated measurement problems and to apply the apporpriate measurement method. Special attention is given to the computerized data acquisition and data reduction.

Subject of course

The main topic of this lecture is the conduction of practical measurements on thermal turbomachines or on some of their components. Some possible exercises are for example: Performance map of a vehicular gas turbine. Pneumatic probe measurements downstream of a linear turbine cascade. Turbine blade pressure distribution. Hot wire anemometry. Temperature measurement in air at high speed. Forced vibrations of a steam turbine blade. The measurements will be undertaken in the laboratory of the institute. The students have the opportunity to operate the various instruments and to collect the measured quantities. Subsequent steps are the data reduction and the documentation of the measurements.

Drei Teilübungen; Gruppengröße je nach Teilnehmerzahl: maximal 8 Studenten pro Laborübung;
