Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to:

  • explain and calculate the energy exchange in a thermal turbo machine
  • estimate losses in a thermal turbo machine
  • describe and apply specific parameters related to thermal turbo machines
  • perform preliminary designs of thermal turbo machines

Subject of course

Practical application of calculation examples on the following topics: Energy exchange and efficiencies. Preliminary thermal design of various types of thermal turbomachines. Stage characteristics. 2D and 3D flow in turbomachines. Loss mechanisms. Performance and control of turbines and compressors.
