Aim of course

Application of thermodynamics, fluid dynamics and mechanics to the design and development of thermal turbomachines and their performance and control.

Subject of course

Overview of fundamental concepts and designs of thermal turbomachines. Energy exchange and efficiencies. Preliminary thermal design of various types of thermal turbomachines. Stage characteristics. 2D and 3D flow in turbomachines. Loss mechanisms. Performance and control of turbines and compressors. Mechanical stresses, vibrations and mechanical design aspects.
