After successful completion of the course, students are able to...
to differentiate thermohydraulic systems according to different aspects (power engines and driven machines / fluid flow machines and displacement machines / radial pumps, semi-axial pumps and axial pumps / ...) and to discuss the meaning of these subdivisions;
- to formulate the Bernoulli equation with losses for plants and the energy conversion in turbomachines;
operating ranges and control behaviour of the plants and machines to be evaluated;
- to estimate possible characteristics that may occur when using turbomachinery (cavitation, NPSH, axial thrust, pressure surge, ...)
- to distinguish tasks and special features of relevant components in fluid flow machines (spiral, guide vane, bearings, seals, ...).
Operation principles of turbo and positive displacement pumps and compressors. General layout and main elements. Losses, efficiencies. Performance, control, characteristic diagrams.
