Discrete solutions of Partial Differenctial Equations and incompressible Navier-Stokes system implementing codes in Matlab or Octave (Finite Difference Method);
Discrete solutions of Partial Differenctial Equations and incompressible Navier-Stokes system implementing codes in FreeFEM++ (Finite Element Method);
Discrete solutions of compressible and incompressible Navier-Stokes system using the solvers implemented in OpenFOAM (Finite Volume Method).
The exam consists of two parts.
- The first part is a theoretical analysis of CFD common discretization schemes and the relative strengths and weaknesses.
- The second part is divided in two sections:
a) a practical implementation of one of the analysed schemes using Matlab or Octave in order to discretize and solve a PDE of common interest.
b) a successive session consisting in solving a PDE using FreeFEM++ or, alternatively, NS equations with OpenFOAM. This section can be substituted with a project carried out and reported before the exam.
Course scripts will be distributed during the course and via e-mail.
Further literature references will be added if necessary.
