Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to

  • to understand and apply methods of analytical mechanics
  • to judge the stability of solutions
  • to apply the theory of elasticity to straight rods
  • to compute appromiate solutions of simple problems of mechanics of solids

Subject of course

d'Alembert's principle, Lagrange's equations, 3-dimensional continuum (strain tensor, stress tensor, constitutive equations), linearised elasticity theory, beams and curved rods, energy methods, approximation methods, stability of equilibria and motions

Teaching methods

Lecture (beamer + blackboard) and discussion of the theoretical basics, claculation of simple example problems

Positive result of the written examination is mandatory for subsequent appointment for the oral one. In case of a negative oral examination result, the written part must be repeated.
