Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to explain complex scientific concepts in an understandable way to students. By answering questions about their studies and organising school tours, students' organisational skills are strengthened and their ability to present in front of groups is improved. This allows students to build confidence in their ability to present publicly while taking on a supportive and informative role.

The role as a contact person between the different project stations encourages the development of leadership skills and the coordination of different needs. Students gain valuable experience in dealing with organisational challenges and building interpersonal relationships.

These acquired skills are invaluable in educational contexts as well as in professional and personal situations.

Subject of course

This course enables students to act as ambassadors of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Management Sciences at various information events for pupils over a period of two semesters. The students work on events such as the open day, the professional practice days and school tours. After you have worked on a total of five days during the year, you will receive a personal certificate from the Dean of Studies, Paul Heinz Mayrhofer, in appreciation of your achievements.

In these events, the students have the task of giving children and young people an insight into student life at TU Vienna and supporting them in an advisory capacity. The main goal is to give the pupils an understanding of the possibilities of studying in the STEM field.

At the Career Practice Days, the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Management Sciences offers workshops that give the students practical insights into various projects and subject areas. The students accompany the young people between the different stations of the workshops. They act as mediators between the students and the institutes of the faculty. In doing so, they not only promote the exchange of information about the projects, but also provide insights into student life.

In addition, students have rare opportunities to take a look behind the scenes of the institutes and to exchange ideas with experienced scientists.

On the open day, various institutes of our faculty and the student council offer mini-workshops and information stands. Here, the students once again act as a link between the stations and the students to accompany them in an advisory capacity.

As part of the school tours, the students organise a two-hour tour of one or two of our faculty's laboratories with the help of the MWB dean's office, tailored to the students' interests. They also give a 30-minute presentation about the study programmes at our faculty. These activities not only provide valuable insights for the students, but also give the students rare access to the laboratories and the work of the scientists at our faculty. As a result, students broaden their understanding of mechanical engineering and get a broader picture of the opportunities available to them after graduation.
