Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to...

... creatively and independently design and jointly implement educational formats in interdisciplinary teams.

... identify and name the level of knowledge and interests of children and young people on specific scientific topics in order to determine how and where they can be reached.

... to prepare scientific content on the subject of climate and energy for laypeople in an understandable form (linguistically, pictorially, interactively, playfully, etc.).

...to plan and actively implement science education in hands-on formats and as a co-creation process for children and young people.

Subject of course

The course is held in cooperation with the FFG-funded co-creation space for climate and energy "Transformer". In the Transformer project, a vacant building in the city of Vienna is activated by an interdisciplinary team of scientists from TU Wien and used as a real experimental site and space. Within this framework, there are a variety of opportunities to implement innovative and climate-fit projects, workshops and events directly in, on and around the building resource. Students on the course are actively involved in the R&D project.
Objectives and added value for users (pupils, students and teachers):
- Imparting skills that are conducive to success for the sustainable development of our and the individual future of the KuJ, such as increasing action competence and self-efficacy, through co-design and own creation
- New hands-on teaching and learning experiences at different levels - training of motor, cognitive and social-emotional skills
- Generation of free non-formal and informal offers to expand the qualifications of children and young people from all social classes, with a focus on socio-economically disadvantaged families

- Awakening new interests and ways of spending leisure time in the area of climate change adaptation and space and time for experimentation and development. Sustainable, environmentally friendly and future-oriented projects are developed, researched and scrutinized. A protected, design-free and non-discriminatory space and short decision-making paths for the project team are important. The focus is on doing things with a fun factor.

- Experiencing interdisciplinarity, transdisciplinarity and cooperation - The project aims to bring together research, science and business as well as other interest groups in order to offer a diverse program and to convey the necessity of interdisciplinary problem-solving to the KuJ at an early stage. The implementation and scaling of research and developments is experienced in a practical way.

- Reducing inhibitions towards academic education and STEM professions. Highlighting possible current and future Green Jobs occupational fields by developing workshop offers directly from research and today's issues in the field of climate change adaptation and transformation.
