After successful completion of the course, students are able to...

After successfully completing the course, students are able to understand and analyze the diverse historical and current components of planning in endangered regions in an international context and are prepared through practical exercises for planning work in uncertain times, crisis regions and in areas at risk of war.    

Subject of course

Block 1.

VO: Eternal contradiction: The city and the war in a historical perspective.

Ex: Definition and analysis of destroyed and then rebuilt urban structures.

Block 2.

VO: Planning for mass exodus: emergency shelters, tent camps, temporary settlements, hospitals and public facilities.

Ex: Development of a design idea for an emergency shelter.

Block 3.

VO: The art of survival: Existing, planning and building in the war-threatened city.

Ex: Conception and planning of a refuge to protect against bombing in an urban context.

Block 4.

VO: “Dreams in Ruins”: Reconstruction strategies in urban planning and architecture.

Ex: Sketch of a strategy for the reconstruction of a war-torn city.

Teaching methods

Lectures as an introduction to topics such as planning in uncertain times and war-prone areas, practical exercises in the lecture hall, field research and design
