In the 2024 summer semester, we will be looking at "Shared Spaces, Commons and Gemeinschaftsräume" in Viennese housing. The interest in communal spaces is no coincidence - the current discourse on new forms of communal living ("co-living", "collective urban living", etc.), but also the housing policy goal of "living in community", virtually urges an in-depth examination of new forms of collectively used spaces. In the context of several project visits and discussions with various actors in Viennese housing, we explore the question of how and whether "shared spaces" and common areas are used and appropriated and who has access to these spaces and how.
The course will focus on practices (of appropriation and use, etc.) and access to common spaces in Viennese housing. The focus is on acquiring knowledge on theoretical content and its transfer on the projects visited in Vienna in the context of discussions and text contributions.
Logging of the excursions (docuemtnation of presentations, mapping, photo documentation, observation protocol).
The fulfilment of both criteria as well as 80% attendance are required for positive completion.
