Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to independently deal with current tasks from the planning context and solve them in an integrated manner. They practise interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary project work and develop concrete strategic, conceptual and design plans on the basis of a theoretically, methodologically and analytically sound preparation of the topic. They present the results to an expert audience and engage in critical reflection.

Subject of course

The master's projects deal with a different thematic focus every year.  Interdisciplinary and cross-border themes are offered across a number of different TU research centres and cooperation is also sought with other universities. The thematic focus rotates between urban development planning, inward development of settlement structures, the design of development processes for rural and/or alpine areas, the coevolution of infrastructure, settlement and spatial development and the further development of planning and testing tools.

The general theme of the master project "Europäischer Schlüsselraum ‚Donau - Adria" is the coordination of infrastructure, settlement and spatial development for a defined section of the Danube-Adriatic Corridor with a time horizon up to 2050.

Teaching methods

  • Preliminary reconnaissance of the project area in the form of literature and plan research; tour of the project area
  • Strategy development
  • Development and application of evaluation methods
  • Process documentation in the form of individual and group work
  • Individual and group presentations on individual steps with discussion
  • Final presentation and discussion in front of an expert audience
