Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to...

... independently develop and apply methods for spatial research (perception, investigation, measurement, documentation),

... evaluate current mobility planning projects with regard to the (international) state of the art,

... identify challenges in the planning and realisation of ambitious mobility projects and

... understand and critically categorise the viewpoints and perspectives of different stakeholders in mobility planning (politics, administration, planning, ...).

Subject of course

In the MOVE.walks, we visit and discuss current concepts, designs and implementations of mobility planning together with local experts. In four walks, we focus on one key topic each and get to know the views of practitioners from different areas (politics, administration, planning, business, ...).

We understand walking as an active research method in the sense of "promenadology" and want to jointly explore its potential as a method of perception, analysis and communication. To this end, all participants will develop methods that will be tested during the walks, developed further and reflected on in a short report.

In the 2024 winter semester, the walks will focus on the following topics

  • Pedestrian traffic, greening and urban climate
  • Shared space in shopping streets
  • Cycling planning
  • Sharing services and logistics in urban development areas

The experts for the individual walks will be added to TISS on an ongoing basis.

Teaching methods

  • Joint walks
  • Discussion with mobility planning experts
  • Independent development of methods of empirical mobility research
