Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to...independently write a scientific thesis on a chosen topic, to answer critical questions and to present their thesis within the seminar.

Subject of course

The seminar provides tools for writing the Bachelors Thesis.

In the course of the seminar, the step-by-step procedure for writing a Bachelor's thesis is taught in a guiding manner and in mutual exchange in the plenum. The Bachelor's thesis is to be written independently. The content of the thesis is a freely selectable topic from the entire range of spatial planning tasks, whereby the focus should be in the subject area of mobility, traffic and transport with reference to space. In any case, the thesis should deal with theoretical, analytical and design-oriented or planning aspects. Essential elements are the following process steps:

1) Proposing the topic and formulating the assignment including the research question(s).
2) Preparation of a disposition with a clear structure of the methodological approach.
3) Selection of suitable sources and study of literature
4) Result-oriented writing of the thesis. Strict completion and submission of the Bachelor thesis by the end of the semester (no extended processing time!)
5) Formulation of conclusions and further strategies (e.g. implementation, need for further research, etc.).

Teaching methods

Discussion and guidance during the writing of a scientific paper within the framework of the seminar in small groups as well as supplementary individual corrections by the teaching staff.
