After successful completion of the course, students are able to

• to acquire spatial data from different sources and to integrate them into geodatabases,
• to manageupdate geodata in server databases on the basis of structured query languages (SQL),
• perform spatial SQL management and analysis tasks using database tools,
• Integrate geodatabases in applications such as GIS, Web-GIS and mapping services,
• to critically evaluate available spatial data and methods used.

Based on courses of bachelor degree (Databases and Informationmanagement, Spatial Analysis with GIS) and of master degree (Quantitative Methods in Spatial Research and Planning) content on the focus on geodata and geodata management is deepened.

• Basics: data sources, legal framework, licensing models, terms of use
• Data infrastructures, data models, geographic objects in (geo) database environments
• Databases: server, web, geo databases
• Geo Data Management: SQL, Spatial SQL
• Geo Data: (Open) Geo Data, Dynamic Data, Mobile Data
• Web Mapping: Map Services, APIs, Scripting

Teaching methodology:

• Introductory, practice-oriented theory content in the form of lectures
• Theory-based exercises for lecture units
• Independent research - data, theory, tools
• Discussion and participation in the plenum
• Group and project work
• Presentation of results

    Database: server database (PostgreSQL), pgAdmin 4
    Geo database: PostGIS
    GIS: QGIS
    Map service: OpenLayers
    Scripting: JavaScript, (PHP)
