Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to...

.... discuss the potentials and limits of integrated regional development within the current setting of international development cooperation
.... name and understand basic planning and monitoring techniques

Subject of course

The lecture will provide the broader context of grand development theories and an overview about the institutional landscape, facts & figures and key topics in international cooperation. The potentials and limits of regional development activities in the Global South will be presented.

 

Actual development projects in Easgtern Africa as well as contemporary topics like resilience, migration and climate change will be presented and discussed

Teaching methods

Methodologies and tools of project planning and monitoring such as Project Cycle Management/Logframe Approach/Management of Cooperation will be presented and practiced.

An interactive role play simulating a participatory planning session in Ethiopia will reveal the impact of cultural settings and the conflict of interests in participatory planning.
