After successful completion of the course, students are able to understand current legal issues and challenges concerning the implementation of “urban development projects” as defined in the EIA Directive in Austrian law and to work on them systematically. Students are able to comprehend which environmental assessments apply to which planning steps in urban development projects and the purpose of it. They know the problems and challenges that arise from the application of these environmental assessments to urban development projects, and they understand the demands to adapt the current legal framework as a consequence of these problems.
European Union and Austrian regulatory framework on environmental assessment of urban development projects, in concrete: EIA, strategic environmental assessment and nature impact assessment for urban development projects; analysis of court decisions concerning the application of environmental assessments to urban development projects; implementation of the EIA for urban development projects in other member states; practical insights through guest presentations, simulation game of the legislative process to adapt the current regulatory framework.

Die erste Einheit des Seminars wird hybrid abgehalten, daher können Sie in Präsenz oder via Zoom teilnehmen. In der ersten Einheit werden wir gemeinsam die Art der Abhaltung der LV (Präsenz/hybrid/online) für die weiteren Einheiten festlegen, wobei wir eine Präsenzabhaltung bevorzugen würden. Die Lehrveranstaltung wird geblockt stattfinden, insgesamt sind 6 Einheiten geplant.
