After successful completion of the course, students are able to deal with planning problems in an international and interdisciplinary context. The focus of the course is the Danube region, which offers a great variety and heterogeneity of planning challenges, including adaptation strategies and approaches. The course deals with small and medium-sized cities along the Danube, which in many cases (as in the excursion area around Calarasi/Romania) are affected by shrinkage, emigration and further challenges related to economic transformation. By working with students and teachers from six partner universities, students learn about similarities and differences in planning cultures and approaches. In the process, their own approaches will be critically reflected and their transferability to other (European) regions will be examined. The exact programme of the excursion with the concrete challenges to be addressed will be made available by the end of the registration period.
The course is organised within the framework of the Erasmus-Plus project “Danubian SMCs”, which aims to bring together interdisciplinary knowledge in spatial planning from universities situated along the Danube (UAUIM Bucharest as a lead partner, BME Budapest, UNS Novi Sad, UB Belgrade, STU Bratislava, DUK Krems). Students will work together with colleagues from these partner universities and develop approaches that consider the different challenges small and medium sized cities along the Danube face.

For this purpose, inputs on topics from architecture, urban and landscape planning, urban and regional development, as well as ecology and environmental protection with a focus on small and medium-sized towns in the Danube region will be offered and excursions and explorations in and around Novi Sad will be carried out together (but also in small groups).
