Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to create a 3D model based on GIS data sets. Students will learn principles in script- and parameter-based spatial modelling processes. In the exercise units, a special emphasis is placed on logical and spatial thinking in the script-based creation of 3D city models.

The 3D models created in this way serve as a visual basis for communication and decision making in planning processes. Within the course Web-Viewer and VR-Technologies will be presented and applied as presentation environments.

Subject of course

The following teaching contents were developed in the exercise units and private study:

  • rule based 3D modeling with ESRI City Engine
  • development of 3D models based on GIS data sets
  • model preperation for planning support (web viewer)

Teaching methods

  • Lecture input on the task and introduction to the applied software
  • Provision of digital exercise materials and sample file
  • Supervision and support of the design and modelling process
  • Final presentation with feedback
