After successful completion of the course, students are able to...

  • to define the positioning of cities between competitive and resilient urban development
  • to explain cohesive resilient urban develpopment based on factors of territorial capital,
  • to discuss challenges for the positioning of cities,
  • to discuss challenges for governance and city-marketing,
  • to analyse city marketing and strategic planning as instruments for competitiveness and resilience
  • conflicts form sustainability point of view.

introduction in most important approaches focussing on competitiveness and sustainability/resilience as well as governance and strategic planning

identification of most relevant criteria and questions in order to assess competitive and sustainable urban development of selected cities

group work on distinct cities/metropolises: characteristics of development, discussion and assessment of competitiveness and sustainability, considering the importance of urban governance, strategic planning and city marketing
