After positive completion of the course students are able to know logical and analytical errors and to recognize and avoid them in practice.

In addition to a theoretical discussion, classic errors are highlighted using current examples from planning.

Subject of course

In qualitative as well as in quantitative research there are numerous "logical & analytical fallacies", which lead to the fact that superficially clean work is either already based on false assumptions, processed with unsuitable methods and ultimately misinterpreted. In the course of the VU or SEM, the most important fallacies will be presented and substantiated with concrete, current case studies. For example, the unreflective use of certain methods (e.g. statistical methods, especially new ones such as machine learning and similar) without appropriate knowledge of classical logical and analytical errors as a corrective leads to unreliable results. The subject of the course is to show this exemplarily.
