Subject of course

In cooperation with students of the Cairo University (Faculty of Urban Planning) and the administration, an integral planning and urban development plan for the area of the citadel is to be created. The citadel and its surroundings are among the few large open spaces in Cairo, which is one of the densest cities in the world. This place is considered a potential gateway for visiting many other heritage sites and the historic core of Cairo in the Cairo metropolitan area.

In doing so, local needs have to be considered. In particular, the requirements for non-motorized, public and motorized traffic in urban core areas and their interaction with urban planning diverse situations and user groups (trade, market operation, tourism to heritage sites but also housing).

The process is structured as follows:

- Problem analysis, on-site research and goal definition

- Preparation of rough draft

- Preparation of detailed plans Further information can be found shortly under "Documents" in TISS.
